General Characteristic of Report

1.       Social Function of Narrative

The function of Narrative is to entertain, amuse and to deal with the actual experiences in different ways. Narrative deal with problematic events, which lead to a crisis or turning point of some kind, which turn, finds a resolution.

2.       Narrative Text Type

Narrative types are in form of: fable, fairy tales, historical stories, folktale, legends, mysteries etc.

3.       Generic Structure of Narrative

a.       Orientation: sets the scene and introduces the participants.

b.      Complication: a crisis arises.

c.       Resolution: the crisis resolved.

d.      Re-orientation: optional.

4.       Significant Features of Narrative

a.       Focus in specific and individualized participants.

b.      Use of relational process.

c.       Use of past tense.

d.      Use of temporal conjunctions and temporal circumstances.

e.      Use of process (saying verbs) in direct or indirect speech.
